| The 24th Loony Dook was the biggest and
best yet with over 600 Dookers officially registered and
estimates of upwards of 800 in the water together with upwards
of 3000 spectators. Weather conditions were as good as could be
expected for 1 January but still pretty cold as our main image
here illustrates. Many charities will benefit from the
event including The Marie Curie Cancer Care Trust in memory of
local girl Beverley Mason whose husband Jax and other family
members and friends took part to raise money for this good
cause. Once details of the figures are available they will
be posted here. The organisers and the charities involved
are very grateful to everyone who supported the event.
Did you take part in
the event? Or were you a spectator? Why not leave your comments

Our regulars from Falkirk were here for
the fourth year in a row, this time in
Lara Croft outfits raising money for
"Help for Heroes". Once again the
girls had a great day and hopefully made
lots of money for a very deserving
cause. We have asked the girls to
contact us with their comments about
their Loony Dook experiences which we
will share with you here in due course. |

We are anxious to
obtain any video footage of the event, also if anyone has any images or
stories they would like to see on the website we would be pleased to
have them included. Contact

There are many individuals and
organisations who have contributed to the now overwhelming success of
The Loony Dook and the organisers are very grateful to them all
including in particular Queensferry RNLI, Unique Events, City of
Edinburgh Council, Lothian and Borders Police, the British Red Cross and
British Airport Authority. We are also very grateful to webmaster
Kevin Mullen for all his help in creating and up-dating this web site.
Special thanks go to our pipers, Hugh Lavery and Michael
Shiels, also to our Town Crier Lindsay Munro. There are
many others without whose help and guidance the event simply would not
be what it is today: to them we are equally grateful. We
look forward to their continuing support. |
